It's tricky to install these things yourself, but if you're mechanically inclined and are careful (it's somewhat dangerous), you can do it.
Here's what you do: Google or Yahoo "Richard Kinch Torsion DDM Garage Doors". The first two links that will come up will be to the two best pages that I found to tutor do-it-yourselfers on torsion spring replacement.
You MUST select the exact spring to use, primarily based on the weight of your door (which you can determine with a bathroom scale). Or, if you KNOW that your door was well-balanced with the prior spring you can make certain measurements of the broken spring's dimensions and simply buy an exact replacement. (This advisement will save Amazon and the Ace outlet a lot of grief with people trying to return springs.)
When you're up there on the ladder winding up the spring to maximum torque you'll KNOW why everyone says that it can be dangerous. Do follow all of the safety precautions that the two gentlemen who wrote the tutorials mentioned.
