(More customer reviews)If you press your opener button and can hear the motor running, but nothing happens... you've probably worn out your plastic gear. Another sign will be removing the cover and seeing a large pile of snow inside. These are the plastic shavings from the gear.
It took me a little bit longer than the previous reviewer... about 2 hours total. I did not, however, replace the worm drive as I could see nothing wrong with the existing one and honestly, didn't have all the necessary tools to do so.
I simply propped the carriage bar up, removed the opener assembly altogether, followed all [excellent] instructions pertaining to the replacement of the gear assembly, then reinstalled. It works wonderfully. I actually ordered much more than I needed, but I still ended up saving about $150 by doing it myself.
I am a somewhat mechanically inclined female... 43 yrs old and out of shape(smile). Even I could fix it myself!
