Werner W2210 250-Pound Duty Rating Wood Folding Attic Ladder, 10-Foot Review

I purchased this ladder for a "sleeping loft" above my home office. The office ceiling is only 8ft high and my husband and I didn't have any experience with folding access ladders so we weren't sure if they could be altered to fit the height we needed. Once again, Amazon.com made my purchase easy with both rating/reviews and their return policy.
This ladder fit perfectly with a small adjustment to shorten the length and installation was pretty straightforward and simple. No assembly needed for the ladder, the whole thing is framed in just like a door or window. The width is a little narrow on the steps as well as overall so lugging large items up and down these stairs would be difficult but for simple access to a loft, as in our setup, it works great. Also, the unfinished wood stairs had a couple of loose steps that could slip out from their notched siderails but that was remedied with some wood glue and a couple of screws. The stairs themselves will look very nice when I stain them to match the wood trim in the rest of the house. The pull cord was flimsy so we made a retrofit to accomodate our frequent use of the stairs. Overall, we are happy with this item and the loss of one star is only because of the loose steps.
As for Amazon.com -- I rate them a 10-star company and first source for everything I can't buy locally. Keep up the good work Amazon!

Werner AL2210 Universal Aluminum Attic Ladder Review

Werner AL2210 Universal Aluminum Attic Ladder

Ladder was easy enough to install, and fit tight all around the door at first. One week later, the door has a large gap on one side. After inspection, the thin plywood has bowed down leaving the gap. I am going to try to use some wood strips on the back side to try and straighten the door back out...we will see.
I was talking to a friend (after I installed mine) and he had similar trouble with one corner bowing, and leaving a 3/8" gap.
The door is just to thin and only support is crossways, none length wise.
And, it is just too much trouble to uninstall and take back. Really should be made better.

The box was beat up during shipping and the ladder was knocked out of square. The frame is 1x4 pine, stapled together. the ceiling panel is 1/8 luan and kinda flimsy. I would not want it in my house or somewhere that I would be up and down it a lot. But all in all it was a good buy. I haven't installed it yet.

Werner AA8 250-Pound Duty Rating Televator Aluminum Universal Telescoping Attic Ladder, 8-Foot Review

I bought a 8' televator ladder. The ladder installation was simple. The instruction were great (and I am not a handy person). They claim it's a one person job. I found that to be quite true. There is a well thought out installaiton procedure and well designed parts (assuming you read directions carefully). The only down side is that it does not come with a door. I assume this is because the opening sizes vary so much. They do provide all the necessary hardware and (excellent) templates for drilling holes. You have to measure, buy and finish is the plywood for the door. Unfortunatly this can be pricey. I had to buy a whole 4x8 sheet of birch plywood and only used a fraction of it. The directions for the door assembly are a little less clear than the ladder install but I managed with out too much hassle. The only other thing I can think of now that I didn't think about when I was installing was that the ladder reduces the overall size of the attic access hole. We now have to re-box some things in the attic so we can fit them through the smaller access. Some bigger things in the attic may require removal of the stairs but I think that won't be too bad to do if/when I need to do it. It is great not having to stash a step ladder upstairs any more. I knew I had to do something after my wife fell off the step ladder while climbing out of the attic one day. This is a great alternative when you don't have the space for a real set of stairs.

This ladder is extremely effective and is extremely easy to install. It has several different sizes to choose from, which can be modified to fit different floor heights. The gas cylinders are a great improvement over the old spring-loaded systems. I would definitely buy this again!
