(More customer reviews)Just added this to the bottom of our apartment's formerly unsafe and dark stairway. Powered by the 4 size C batteries, my only worry was whether this would sufficiently illuminate the section (the reason I ruled out a solar powered unit; these tend to put out as much light as a birthday candle). Initially tested the unit indoors and I was pleasantly surprised to see the LEDs put out a great deal of light...enough to read by. Installation is a breeze, the motion sensor is sensitive enough to turn on from about 6-8' away, and hopefully the light lives up to the 6-12 month battery replacement claims. Only negative is not specific to this unit, but of LED lighting technology: the lights are so cold blue, it sometimes looks like a new car headlight is shining downward. Wonder why manufacturers do not include a slightly warm-tinted clear film to alter the light's colour a bit. But overall, think this is a perfect renter's choice in adding some safety lighting outdoors.

(More customer reviews)We've had this light for about a month now and it is working wonderfully! It can be mounted as one piece or comes apart so the solar panel can be mounted for best exposure. In addition to a couple of shorter settings, this light has a 3 minute setting on it, but as long as you are moving within the range of the motion detector, it will stay on constantly. Compared to our other solar light, this one does a fantastic job of lighting the area we intended it for. We fully intend to get another of these lights very soon.

SensorPlug Motion Sensor Outlet Plug Review

The light to my tabletop Essex parlour case (I have reviewed this item previously) is plugged into a Sensor Plug in the following sequence: light cord from case to sensor plug, then sensor plug to a short extension cord, then the extension cord into the wall outlet. I positioned the Sensor Plug to lie on the ground just under the Essex case. Whenever the Sensor Plug detects motion, the Essex case lights turn on. That way, anyone approaching the case to view it will have lighting. When there is no one around the case, the case lights turn off. I like this because this keeps the halogen lighting in the case from getting too hot from staying on too long.
I have a small desk fan plugged into another Sensor Plug. The corner of the room where the desk is tends to get a bit warm. Whenever I walk over to the desk to do work, the fan turns on. Shortly after I leave, the fan turns off.
I have another Sensor Plug in the hallway that I have plugged a small table lamp into. When the hallway gets dark, the Sensor Plug will allow the lamp to come on to give illumination. During the day when the hallway has more light, the Sensor Plug does not operate and so the hallway light stays off when it is not needed.
There are settings on the Sensor Plug where you can have the Sensor Plug operate all the time or only when the room gets dark. With the Essex display case and the desk fan, I have the Sensor Plug to operate at all times, but with the hallway light, the Sensor Plug only works in low light conditions.
I only give the Sensor Plug 4 instead of 5 stars for this reason: for a while, it seemed that the sensor plug that the Essex case was plugged into stopped working. I thought that maybe the lights in the case were burned out. Then, somehow, the sensor plug is now working again and turning the case light on and off. I have no idea why.

They put out a good deal of light which is nice in the winter in Alaska and save on electricity because they are motion detecting. I was so impressed that I bought all that they had at Ft. Wainwright commissary. They are cheaper on post!

(More customer reviews)I bought two of these about 2 months ago, after my visiting aunt fell coming down the stairs at night. She hadn't wanted to turn on the hall light and disturb sleepers. She stepped off into air like Wile E. Coyote from the cliff, not realizing there were two more steps.
This light is great when there is no handy outlet for a nightlight. The bottom is flat enough to stand it on the side of the stair or next to a baseboard. That makes it easy to experiment with a good location without too much commitment. You can mount it with the included tape or screws, but I chose not to bother.
I put one on the floor before the first down-stair and the other one two steps from the bottom. Unless you're running, that gives plenty of time for the sensor to pick up movement and turn the lights on before the crucial first and last footsteps. Even with the turn at the landing and no other light source, the two units light the whole stairway enough to be able to navigate comfortably.
The switches for the settings are inside the cover under the battery bays. It would be nicer if they were on the outside of the unit. To get at the switches, take off the back door by loosening the two plastic screws (lots of turning with a coin.) With the unit turned so the screw-holes are on the left, remove the top-most battery if you already have one installed. You'll see two switches with barely readable embossed labels. The left switch says ON-TIME and the choices are 60 seconds (left position) or 20 seconds (right position). I find 20 seconds to be plenty of time for the light to be on, and it saves some battery. The right switch says GLOW and the choices are On (left position) or Off (right position). On gives you a constant low glow when the room is dark. Off gives you no glow, so the unit is dark until you walk near. Off saves battery power. I have both switches in the right position to save power.
When you remove a battery, the flat metal plate to which the spring is attached may pop out, but it's easy to slide it back into its grooves. A minor annoyance.
This product is made in China.
I'd much prefer a warmer, homier light instead of the harsh blue-white light these units emit.
My wishes for this product are for easier settings, warmer light, and made in USA, but otherwise I strongly recommend it.

Motion-activated lights are convenient and energy efficient, but they can be a little bulky and awkward to look at-in the driveway is fine, but you wouldn't want to put one on your porch. Unless it's one of Heath Zenith's porch lights, that is. These products give you the best of both worlds, combining motion-activation and traditional lantern design.
The SL-4144 is a four-sided New-England style lantern that includes a hidden motion-sensing device. This device will detect movement in a 150-degree radius up to a distance of 30 feet. (More customer reviews)I installed one of these in my laundry room (which is located just inside the garage door in my house). Now, whenever we come home, we don't have the fumble for the light switch. I've also installed one in the room that my wife uses for her office for the same reasons.
This switch comes with three adjustments to customize it to your needs.
First, it has an ambient light adjustment so that you can tell it not to turn on if there is already sufficient light in the room. If you turn this setting all the way up, the switch will become a manual on, auto off switch that will only turn on when you push the button, but will turn off after it senses no motion for a set period of time.
Second, it has a sensitivity adjustment, which adjusts how far the sensor will look for motion.
Third, it has a duration adjustment to tell it how long it should wait with no motion before turning the light off.
It also has a red LED, which blinks whenever it detects motion, so you can tell how whether your movements are being detected or not.

(More customer reviews)This produce is great under normal circumstances. I have this installed in a pantry closet, the master closet, and in the laundry room. I would not recommend this for the garage unless you dont mind the lights turning on during the day when the garage is opened. Also, there is a setting for how long it stays on. If you put in a room you stay in for more than a few minutes, it will turn off after the set number of minutes. Mine are all set to 1 minute. However, I am in my closet sometimes for more than a minute and I have to walk back in front of the sensor for it to turn back on. That only happens about 1% of the time. The other 99% of the time it's great not having to worry about turning it on and off.
Here's the big flaw..... If your power goes out and comes back on, you will find that all of the lights connected to motion sensors in your house will be on. They will not turn off until you switch to off, then back to auto. If you go out of town for more than a couple days, it's probably wise to turn it from auto to off just in case your power cycles. (Unless you don't mind having your lights left on until you return).
