(More customer reviews)I just installed the opener today. Fairly easy to install. I was able to use some of the exisiting hardware from the previous installation so I didn't have to worry about hangers or the wall or door mounts. The settings were pretty close right out of the box for distance and force. This has all the safety features that I was looking for plus it is very quiet. It is below our bedroom so I went with the belt drive. Much quieter than the LiftMaster chain drive it replaced. Besides all the usual bells and whistles that pretty much all the combo sets have (2 openers, rolling code, outside keypad, safety beam eyes) it has a cool feature that lets you add devices from the wall mount so you don't have to get up on a stool or ladder to press the "learn" button on the motor. The 2 100 watt lights are nice and bright. So far no complaints.

(More customer reviews)I didn't know what to expect when I ordered this garage door opener. I did a lot of research and new that I was getting a good product, but I have never installed a garage door opener before.
I received the product in a timely fashion, but it sat for a week before I could get to it. I recruited my brother and father to help me install it. The install was very easy. I had to improvise a bit since the installation requires additional lumbar and hardware that doesn't come in the box. That is acceptable though, since every installation is different.
Besides that, it took me about four hours to install. The product is AMAZING! Quiet, fast, and safe. Everyone who hears it, comments about how quiet it is. The sensor on the control unit turns the lights on when I walk into the garage. No need to reach for the light switch.
This unit came with a battery (in case of a power failure), and I was able to use it the other day when the power was out. How about that! No one in my neighborhood could open their garage door, except ME!!
I would highly recommend this to anyone interested.

Genie 1042-2TX BELTLIFT DC Belt Garage Door Opener Review

(More customer reviews)When my 12 year old craftsman finally broke I decided to go looking for a replacement. I settled on this genie since it was around the same price as replacing with a chain drive craftsman. I was worried that this would require a lot of work to replace. To my delight the old craftsman brackets worked with this genie! I was also able to use the wires from the old sensors and wall switch.
Here is a short review of this new unit.
Install:
Took me about 3 hours total including removing the old opener (took about 30 mins to remove), setting limits and force, and programming remotes and homelink in my cars.
I did have the luxury of using the old header mount and motor mounts that used to hold the craftsman which saved me a lot of time.
The only thing that should be changed are the sensors. They are hardwired on the sensor unit so you have to cut the wire and splice if you already are prewired for sensors. Not that big of a deal but just adds and extra step. They do provide wire ties for this.
I also noticed that the directions are somewhat confusing when you are to engage the carriage to the belt. It does not explain that you have to "lock" the emergency release again, it comes unlocked by default. Read the directions on the emergency release cable and it explains how to do this.
Overall the install was pretty simple and instructions were easy to follow.
Performance:
The unit is nice and quiet. You can still hear the motor but it is A LOT quieter than my old chain driven craftsman.
I really like how you set limits. It is very very easy. You simply push a button forward until you feel the door should stop and press a button. Same way for open setting.
I also like how the door slows down a bit before it closes so your door does not slam to the ground.
Force settings are the same as most openers you turn a dial with a screw driver.
Wall unit is pretty cheap looking and only a single button with no button to turn the light on or lockout button like my old craftsman had. I think you can buy this separately for around $10 on ebay but i'm not sure.
This also does not come with a keypad.
Remote learning was simple. You push the learn button on the power head and then press the remote button twice.
Overall:
I would recommend this system to replace an old opener or even for a new install (although you may need some additional parts such as support brackets etc.)
Operation is awesome and it is a breeze to install.

SOMMER Direct Drive Garage Door Opener 3/4 HP Review

(More customer reviews)When my old Craftsman chain-drive garage door opener refused to adjust and tore the pulley off of its motor, I searched for something better while shopping online. I found the Sommer 3/4 hp direct-drive garage door opener. I like the new efficient design with very few moving parts. I was a bit skeptical because it's new to the USA (#1 in Europe) and there weren't many reviews of the product, though most reviews were very positive. Once set up, the opener is very quiet and gentle. It is now hard to hear the garage door opening. 2 remotes are included, as well as a wall station control. An outdoor keypad is optional. Installation took a bit longer than stated. The instructions are a bit lacking. Drawings show 2 sections of the C-rail (track) with the lettered stops facing each other on either side of the junction piece of the C-rail. Nowhere does it specifically say to slide the carriage (motor) onto the C-rail between the stops. Not hard to figure out but instructions should be clear. One drawing shows the J-arm piece with the single hole closest to the motor. The very next drawing shows just the opposite. You can watch an installation video on the company's website where it says the track comes preassembled. It does not. It ships in 2 packages, which UPS delivered on 2 different days. One package contains the track, the other has the motor, hardware, and controls. A pair of sturdy right-angle brackets for hanging the track would have been a welcome addition to the installation kit instead of the flimsy flat brackets included. The skinny remote control looks like it should slide over the buttons for opening the door to avoid activating the door while in a pocket. Overall, I am satisfied with it now that it is up. We'll see how it holds up this winter when the frost causes the concrete to heave in the garage. It is reassuring to know that everything is guaranteed for life. The Sommer opener costs about $100 more than a conventional belt, chain, or screw drive opener on sale, but looks like it is built to last.

(More customer reviews)We used to have a 1/3 HP garage door opener, and it gave us nothing but problems. We have a metal folding garage door with wood panels on the outside. Whenever there was overnight moisture, we would not be able to open the garage door. The door would become soaked when it rained, and it was very heavy.
Not a problem for this 3/4 HP garage door opener from Chamberlain. It opens our heavy garage door every time, and it's also very quiet. No loud mechanical or electrical noises when it's operating.
The box that it came in is not that large. It includes the railings in sections. The rail comes together from the pieces to form one permanent long piece. At first, we thought it would be very difficult to install this opener, but in fact it was very easy. We took our time to make sure it was installed right, and the total time was about 1 hour. The instructions were clear and the installation was surprisingly a breeze.
The only thing is that be aware that not all "universal" remote openers purchased elsewhere will work this opener. This opener uses the special SecurityPlus technology, so you should make sure any additional openers you purchase supports this. It does come with two remote controls though.
Highly recommended opener- don't make the mistake of buying a 1/2 HP opener and installing it only to find out that you need a stronger opener to open your garage door.
