Genie GLU-3 Screw Drive Garage Door Opener Lubricant Review

Genie GLU-3 Screw Drive Garage Door Opener Lubricant
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Genie GLU-3 Screw Drive Garage Door Opener Lubricant
Pros:
- excellent lubricant - 3 tubes in the package.
Cons:
- 1/4 ounce tube isn't quite enough to grease the entire drive-screw of my Genie garage door opener, but 2 tubes is too much.
- absurdly over-priced at nearly $10 per ounce - ten times as much per ounce as Genie's Lubriplate 10 OZ Low Temp Lithium Garage Door Grease, which is $1 per ounce. See Customer Images for size comparison of tubes. (Grease from both products is white and has the same consistency; it seems to be the same grease.)
Other:
- previous versions of this product had black grease, but the last (and final) batch I bought was white.
Summary:
Although this is excellent lubricant, it's a terrible value. Buy the Lubriplate instead. Search Amazon on: Lubriplate

Chamberlain PD432D 1/2-Horsepower Screw Drive Garage Door Opener Review

Chamberlain PD432D 1/2-Horsepower Screw Drive Garage Door Opener
Average Reviews:

This is my first review, so please bear with me. This garage door opener installed without a problem and works great! I definately recommend buying this based on price, ease of installation and its quiet operation. A couple of things to point out; this unit is for a 7' door, it will not fully open an 8' door; Before beginning the installation, read the instruction manual for any bracket mounting materials you will need.

Genie 20414R Carriage for Screw Drive Operators Review

Genie 20414R Carriage for Screw Drive Operators
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My Genie garage door opener (potentially 15yrs old since I bought the home used) started making a horrible racket and wouldn't open or close, but didn't make any noise when I disconnected the carriage release from the screw drive. That pointed to a bad carriage. I was very happy to find this part on Amazon.
Installation was very easy:
1) pull the manual release cord on the carriage to disconnect it from the screw drive
2) remove the cotter pin/bolt from the old carriage and the angle bar that is attached to the garage door (leave the bar attached to the door)
3) remove single nut supporting the track at the front of the garage.
4) supporting the track with 1 hand, gently push the track off to one side just a couple of inches to allow you to slide off the existing carriage
NOTE: after you pull off the carriage, you'll probably notice that some/many/all of the teeth have broken off
5) slide the new carriage on being careful about the orientation - there's a directional arrow molded onto the new piece reminding you which side is towards the door
6) reattach the track to the front of the garage with the bolt
7) reattach the angle bar to the carriage using the cotter pin
8) remove the cord from your old carriage and tie it to the new one
9) engage the carriage by pulling up on the release lever; after pulling up on the lever, I found that wiggling it back and forth just a bit gave me a comforting feeling as I could hear/feel the teeth fall into place along the screw drive
This is a 10min job max. I did remove my carriage before buying the new one on here to confirm that it had problems, and as I mentioned in the note above, the broken teeth confirmed my suspicions.
To reiterate what some other people have said, this is NOT the magnetic carriage version. If you look carefully at the 2 models sold here, you can see the magnet sitting above and to the right of the release lever.

After my old sprocket coupler broke (many years of use) I ordered this one, a little tricky to replace without any instructions but I figured it out after about 30 minutes. Saved a bunch of money by doing it myself and not having to purchase another opener.

Genie 4060 Excelerator 1/2-Horsepower DC Screw Drive Garage Door Opener Review

Genie 4060 Excelerator 1/2-Horsepower DC Screw Drive Garage Door Opener
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The garage door opener in the house I just bought died after the 3rd day of owning the place. I bought the Genie Excelerator Powerlift H8000-07 as a replacement. Installation is not difficult but can be time consuming. It took me about 6 hours to install, but that included a couple of mistakes on my part that could have been avoided by paying closer attention to the directions. The only potential problem you may run into is if your old system attached to the brackets on the front of the power head instead of on the side. This means the brackets won't line up to this power head. This can easily be solved by drilling a couple new holes in the ceiling studs a littler further from the door and mounting the bracket there.
It's worked very well ever since I got it installed. It is much quieter than any other garage door opener I've used in the past. There is a slight buzz from the engine, and the moving parts of the system are even quieter than the engine. On all the previous models of garage door openers I've used, I couldn't even hear the engine because the chain or screw made so much noise.
The other nice feature of this unit is that it opens about twice as fast as most other doors, but it closes at the normal 'safe' speed. The increased speed is nice for security (getting inside your house faster), and even if you're not worried about security it's nice not having to sit in your car waiting on your door to open.
I did not buy this from Amazon. Amazon's description of this item says it has a lifetime warranty on the engine and a 5 year warranty on parts. Instead, I got it from The Home Depot. The model they have there has a lifetime warranty for the engine, parts, and home labor, and at the time of this review, it cost about the same amount, just under 240. One note, the warranty is non-transferable and Genie's definition of 'lifetime' means for as long as you own your home. Having just bought a new house, I couldn't pass up the warranty on the model at the Home Depot.

Genie Screw & Trac Drive Garage Door Opener Replacement Limit Switch 20113R Review

Genie Screw and Trac Drive Garage Door Opener Replacement Limit Switch 20113R
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This replacement Genie limit switch works just fine. I am happy with it's performance and durability. One thing...the attaching screw/screw-hole were very tight and seemed to need to be threaded before installing, i.e. I needed to insert screw into screw-hole and carefully turn and thread before I could install the limit switch. Otherwise, it is a perfect replacement. FYI: Since I only really needed a new spring, I checked spring manufacturers and saw they make paper clips too...voilà, I used a paper clip to temporarily (could have been permanently) fix my old limit switch until I received this replacement. Spring, paper clip...same flexible material.

Genie GICT390-1BL One-Button Remote Control with Intellicode Review

Genie GICT390-1BL One-Button Remote Control with Intellicode
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The remote works as advertised.
The manual has programming directions (press "program" button on your garage opener, press the remote two times, you're done).
The four little rectangles arond the remote are a plastic sleeve that can be reversed to cover the button, so it won't accidentally open your garage from your pocket.
There's a tiny hole that lights up red when you press the button, so you know that the battery is good.
Comes with battery already installed.
The keyring was a little tough to attach.

Genie 34107R.S Screw Drive Carriage Review

Genie 34107R.S Screw Drive Carriage
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was a genuine Genie replacement part. Worked perfectly for my door opener. Genie makes two different models, ones that have a physical stopper or limiter and another that uses a magnetic device to slow then stop the door movement.
If your model is the excelarator model (uses the magnet) then this is the carriage you need to order.
I know several have complained these things should last forever, well they don't. This is the main item that breaks on the screw drives and takes all of 5 minutes to replace. Mine lasted 7 years on a 2 car width door and only broke when my wife did not pull up all the way and closed the door on her truck. My single door opener has never given us any problem. Keep the track lubed and I dare say you get 10 to 15 years before you see a carriage go out.

I purchased a Genie screw garage door opener about 5-7 years ago and had to replace it this last weekend. The manufactured date is stamped on the side of the unit and although it was built within the past 8 years they will not honor their 15 year warranty without a receipt. I didn't think it would go bad within the 15 years and didn't keep the receipt. I will purchase a competitor next time.

A couple years ago I bought this opener to replace a 20-year-old failing unit. I was very impressed with the quality of the manufacturing, design, smooth operation and ease of installation. Particularly impressive was the installation documentation. It is written in clear and detailed English (as a first language). The illustrations were very well done and plentiful. It left no guesswork and all steps were clear.
I was so impressed that when the second opener needed replacement I bought another Genie. I just finished installing it.
