Chamberlain 963D Premium 3-Function Garage and Gate Remote Control Review

Chamberlain 963D Premium 3-Function Garage and Gate Remote Control

Purchased this to replace a controller that came with the garage door. It seems as if the range isn't as great as the original opener. And, on many occasions, I've had to press the button several times to get the door to respond. I even changed batteries, etc.

Sears Craftsman Garage Door Opener Mini Key Chain Remote Review

Sears Craftsman Garage Door Opener Mini Key Chain Remote
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The battery ran out on my old chunky remote, so I figured it was a good time to upgrade to a slimmer keychain remote (especially since I couldn't find any A23 batteries that were not in a 20 pack: I only need one!)
So I verified this should be the correct one for my Sears Craftsman door opener. When I got it, I was very frustrated for a while as it seemed not to work. I set the dip switches EXACTLY as they are on the old remote and it would not work (I even tried reversing the order, something I saw in a review of another remote, still didnt work). Finally, just as I was about to give up, I noticed the first Dip switch says "40" on it while the others say nothing, and my original remote said nothing on the first switch. So on a whim, I tried the first dip switch in a different position and bam! it worked. So if you set the dips and it doesn't work, try changing the first switch.(the little instruction pamphlet said nothing about this)
The range seems very limited compared to the original remote. The old remote would seem to open the door from several houses down, while this remote only seems to work within the driveway and I have to point a specific way directly to the garage door. But it works, so I don't think thats a big deal really.

Chamberlain 956CB Mini Multi-Function 3-Button Remote Control Review

Chamberlain 956CB Mini Multi-Function 3-Button Remote Control
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Here's a very important piece of information that's missing in Amazon's description:
The Liftmaster 970LM is compatible only with garage door openers with an orange learn button and SECURITY+ logo. If you have purple learn button, then buy the Liftmaster 370LM instead, which operates at 315Mhz instead of 390Mhz.
Mine works great. Comes with instruction, battery and velcro. Programming is easy, just press the orange learn button, release it quickly, then press the center button on the remote, release it quickly, see confirmation light flashes or hear click click sound near the learn button. That's it. (Don't hold the learn button for more than 6 seconds, as it will clear all codes and make your other remotes useless.)
I have a detached garage. It used to be a hassle to carry the remote with me everywhere I go. Now I can just add this to my keychain and never have to think about it anymore. I didn't want to put the original remote (visor clip on type) inside my pocket, because it's large and a little pressure can push the button down accidentally which might close/open the garage door at unexpected time, causing injuries for my little baby running around. Now I have one hand free for holding my baby's hand or carring groceries.

Liftmaster 81C168 Garage Door Screw Drive Carriage Rack Review

Liftmaster 81C168 Garage Door Screw Drive Carriage Rack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Update March 1, 2011
While researching the part I found conflicting information on the web concerning lubrication of the screw drive assembly; some sources indicated the screw itself should be lubricated to facilitate the operation of the rack and others omitted such references. I decided to call Chamberlain and was told the rail, not the screw, could be very lightly lubricated every 12 inches to facilitate operation of the trolley. They specifically said the rail and not the screw and emphasized the minimal use of lubricant.
Original review
We have always appreciated the convenience offered by a garage door opener so when it made a really loud racket and stopped working we were definitely concerned.
Being something of a do-it-yourselfer I started researching the LiftMaster screw operated garage door opener and soon discovered the weak spot in the design; the infamous screw drive carriage rack. It took a little research to find the exact name of the part but the web came to my aid again.
After I discovered its real name which is screw drive carriage rack and checked Amazon sure enough they had that part. I placed an order with Amazon but the part must have gotten lost somewhere because it never came in. Amazon refunded my money and suggested one of the other suppliers so I chose U.S. Door Control who did a stellar job of getting the part to me well ahead of schedule.
It was then up to me to install the rack; being one of those who always read the instructions I wanted to see if I could find anything on the web that would give me a step-by-step guide to how best to do this. Fortunately the Chamberlain Group has a website where after a little searching I found just what I needed; "Screw Drive Rack Replacement" which is a complete guide to the replacement process.
These instructions are not easy to find; put Chamberlain Support Center into your search engine. You should get something like [..] with a space to type in "screw drive rack replacement instructions." That should take you to a new window with Screw Drive Rack Replacement Instructions listed on top - you should see "To download a copy of the Instructions click the Download Instructions button below. Download Instructions Date Updated: 08/16/2010" This will take you to the same instructions I used to install mine.
I assure you I would not have guessed the steps listed if left to my own devices. While waiting for the part, which wound up taking a lot longer that I thought it would, I spent my time studying the instructions and mentally going through the replacement process.
Finally, with part in hand, I was ready to replace the worn rack and sure enough after I got it out the old rack was almost worn smooth. Following the instructions I was doing great until I got to the actual replacing of the rack on the rail; I discovered the garage door spring assembly got in the way of the rail when I tried to drop it down. After some experimentation I discover the entire LiftMaster unit would flex enough to get the rail down below the spring.
Continuing to follow the instructions I replaced the rack, reattached the rail and ran the test. For some reason the upward and downward travel had to be adjusted but that was relatively simple following the instructions in the Owner's Manual and on the replacement sheet I had downloaded.
I have left out a lot of detail available in the replacement download I mentioned. Suffice it to say I really needed those instructions! The job is not difficult if you're prepared; the replacement instructions are, however, vital if you're not a garage door repairman!

Chamberlain 78LM Multi-Function Control Panel Review

Chamberlain 78LM Multi-Function Control Panel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Easy to install, comes with wire in case you do not have it, bought through Sanford and Sons (lol, great name), and fulfilled by Amazon, delivery was great, easy transaction.
This was a replacement for a Raynor garage door control panel (9 years old), works perfect, and is exactly the same, seems as though this unit is same as used on multiple brands, Raynor, Chamberlain, Liftmaster, Sears, etc.
Until I got the unit, I did not know how to access the mounting screws, but it is easy, just insert a flat head screw driver at the top of the white button an pry down slightly and the button comes out allowing you to access the mounting screws, and then you disconnect, reconnect the wires on the back and off you go.

Purchased these Lifetmaster remotes and found out they were from 2004, where the new ones you can push two remotes together and they will program the other Lifetmaster to be exactly like the other ones but when the garage company came out he said oh where did you find these old things and even though we still used them I was disappointed to find out they were old technology and have come much farther with this product and had to pay for a longer hourly rate to have it programed due to them being old :(

2 suggestions to improve:
1) Add to directions "Hit power on key" before performing each programming step
2) For customers who only want one door to open, eliminate having to enter " * 1 " following the pin number
If first suggestion is taken, it would take about 10 -15 minutes to program and install. Took us about an hour because no where in the instructions did it say you have to hit the power button before following each of the programming steps. We lucked out!

Chamberlain WD822KD Whisper Drive 1/2-HP Belt Drive Garage Door Opener Review

Chamberlain WD822KD Whisper Drive 1/2-HP Belt Drive Garage Door Opener
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just installed the opener today. Fairly easy to install. I was able to use some of the exisiting hardware from the previous installation so I didn't have to worry about hangers or the wall or door mounts. The settings were pretty close right out of the box for distance and force. This has all the safety features that I was looking for plus it is very quiet. It is below our bedroom so I went with the belt drive. Much quieter than the LiftMaster chain drive it replaced. Besides all the usual bells and whistles that pretty much all the combo sets have (2 openers, rolling code, outside keypad, safety beam eyes) it has a cool feature that lets you add devices from the wall mount so you don't have to get up on a stool or ladder to press the "learn" button on the motor. The 2 100 watt lights are nice and bright. So far no complaints.

Garage Butler Automatic Garage Door Closer Review

Garage Butler Automatic Garage Door Closer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this item to ensure that if we ever left our garage door open, it would close automatically and it works exactly as advertised. The instructions are straight forward and include small pictures that help a bit with visualizing the installation. All of the wires were long enough for my normal sized one-car garage. One thing I would have liked to see is pre-drilled holes in the brackets that hold the magnetic sensor and receiver to the garage door. I didn't trust that the double-sided tape that came with the unit would permanentely hold either of the two brackets in place (one to the garage door and one to the track). Although the sensor and receiver included predrilled holes, I had to drill holes in the brackets myself to secure the sensor to the Z-bracket and the receiver to the L-bracket. It worked perfect. It's tricky getting the sensor and receiver lined up with one another. The double sided tape works well for this and can be used to align the sensor and receiver since it can be removed and re-adjusted so long as you don't press down hard on the tape until you're sure you've got it all aligned. One BIG letdown was that the control head itself comes with double-sided tape to stick it onto the wall next to your original garage door opener. I can GUARANTEE you that the weight of the control head would not be supported over time by the double-sided tape. Furthermore, I was disappointed to find that there were NOT pre-drilled holes in the back of the control head for use in mounting it to the wall. I had to drill my own keyhole shaped holes in the back of the unit (which was very tricky) to get it mounted to the wall. To secure the wires to the wall I used a staple gun being careful not to cut the wires. Although I knew ahead of time that this unit used wires, it sure would be nice if a future version was wireless. I have a garage door alarm that is wireless so I know it is possible. Since I just installed it today, I'll update this review at a later date if the unit ever starts malfunctioning but so far so good. All in all, I got exactly what I paid for and it works exactly as advertised/intended.
UPDATE: Well, it's been a year now and I have had absolutely no issues with this equipment. It continues to work great.

This might be a good product in and of itself, but I wish the information on it had been more clear. I needed a second opener that would work with my existing unit, and thought I could program this remote to match what I have. However, the way this transmitter works is by reprogramming your system to fit itself. It cannot be calibrated to fit your system. So if you are looking for a single replacement remote and you have an orange programming light on your garage unit, this may work for you. But if you want a second or spare opener, look elsewhere.

41C4220A Sears Craftsman Liftmaster Gear & Sprocket Assembly Kit Review

41C4220A Sears Craftsman Liftmaster Gear and Sprocket Assembly Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, I wanted to offer compliments to other reviewers that described the symptoms of the gears being bad - the "snow", the stop-and-starts, the stop working altogether but can still hear the motor running - nailed it exactly. Very clear to me after reading those that this was exactly the product I needed. It is exactly what it says it is - an OEM Liftmaster gear replacement assembly. The directions that come with it are excellent - step-by-step, and it explains exactly what you need to do. The directions are the best part of this product - if they were not so well done, it would be impossible.
No knock against the product, but installation was considerably more work than I expected. I had visions of undoing a couple of screws, popping out a gear, putting in the new ones, and being done - boy, I couldn't have been more wrong. The process can best be summarized as "take your garage door opener completely apart, removing all pieces, wires, etc. Around 30 to 50 screws, wires and pieces to remove. Replace gears. Re-assemble." Very important to ziplock and label all pieces and screws as you go, label the disconnected wires with masking tape so you keep everything straight.
With practically no re-work or mess-ups, it took me every bit of 4 hours for the fix. Was starting to wonder if this was the best way to spend my Saturday afternoon or if I just should have bought a whole new opener.....of course, would have had to install that too. That said though, the product works exactly as promised, and the directions are great.
Also kudos to Amazon seller "Sanford and Son" - I ordered it Monday night, was in in mailbox on Friday, in time for the weekend project.
