The Liftmaster 970LM is compatible only with garage door openers with an orange learn button and SECURITY+ logo. If you have purple learn button, then buy the Liftmaster 370LM instead, which operates at 315Mhz instead of 390Mhz.
Mine works great. Comes with instruction, battery and velcro. Programming is easy, just press the orange learn button, release it quickly, then press the center button on the remote, release it quickly, see confirmation light flashes or hear click click sound near the learn button. That's it. (Don't hold the learn button for more than 6 seconds, as it will clear all codes and make your other remotes useless.)
I have a detached garage. It used to be a hassle to carry the remote with me everywhere I go. Now I can just add this to my keychain and never have to think about it anymore. I didn't want to put the original remote (visor clip on type) inside my pocket, because it's large and a little pressure can push the button down accidentally which might close/open the garage door at unexpected time, causing injuries for my little baby running around. Now I have one hand free for holding my baby's hand or carring groceries.

I needed a second opener that would work with my existing unit, and thought I could program this remote to match what I have. However, the way this transmitter works is by reprogramming your system to fit itself. It cannot be calibrated to fit your system. So if you are looking for a single replacement remote and you have an orange programming light on your garage unit, this may work for you. But if you want a second or spare opener, look elsewhere.

(More customer reviews)Previous to installation of this keypad, the only way to open garage door was with the 'clip-onto-car-visor' type remote, which is great IF you are in the car. But when I am outside, either sweeping, gardening, walking the dog, it is wonderful to punch in the code for garage door open access. This purchase was actually for other people who do not have the car remotes to gain entry, esp. family or repair person. So far though I am enjoying it. My brother installed it and I did not hear any complaints about how it went. Usually I do when things go wrong. P.S. If dark outside I first press ENTER to lightup the keypad.

Now that I'm building a new home, I shopped around believing there had to be something better given wireless tech. I was surprise that this product is still the best out there. I just don't care for running the wires and having to plug it in. It's just not a clean looking installation. The main feature that provides a competitive advantage is the night time over ride feature. Often I forget to reset it after disabling it, but once dark it would close the door covering my screw up. The other good items are how simple it is to use and the various count down time options. The beeping is a bit too loud, placing tape over the speaker helps. Mounting it with tape is a joke. My unit fell and I had to rig up something better.

(More customer reviews)This is an commercial product packaged for contractors, not do-it-yourself-ers. Contractors don't need instructions so they don't waste the paper. The one sold at retail hardware stores is easier and more user friendly, but for me, the wrong shape and harder to install because it's already got the tension set. You have to fight to keep it open while installing it.
Hanging a new door and routing out the space for the hinge is beyond my skills. I was replacing original equipment so all I had to do was unscrew the old hinge and replace it with this one.
To Install as a replacement: Locate the hex opening on one end of the hinge. There will be an opening on that same end with several holes. There will be no tension at first. My door had two so I replaced both. On the top hinge, I have the hex opening pointing down, and on the bottom hinge, its pointing up. That just made it easier for me but it doesn't matter really.
To set the tension: place the hex wrench provided in the hole and turn until you feel slight resistance. Either use the long pin, or one of the short pins and as you turn the hex wrench, place the pin in the last hole. The short pins should fit flush with the hinge. If some sticks out, turn the hex wrench a little more and reset the pin.
Open the door and see if it moves. On my first attempt, the spring was set in the wrong direction and it actually opened the door a bit. If this happens, turn the hex wrench until the pin is loose then slowly release the tension until you can start turning the hex wrench in the other direction.
IF you are replacing two hinges at the same time, once you've determined the direction for the top one, release the pin so you can test the bottom one independently. On my first attempt, the top hinge was trying to open the door while the bottom hinge was trying to close the door. There was a lot of tension but it wasn't doing anything!
In my case, the hinges were on the right side of the door, the top hinge turned right to add tension, the bottom turned left to add tension.
Once you have determined the correct direction for both hinges, set the short pins with barely enough tension at first, then open the door and see if it shuts completely. Add a small amount of tension to both hinges evenly until the door shuts. Don't try to add too much tension or you'll blow the springs or cause the door to shut with too much power. It just needs to close gently.
As far as I can tell, there are two short pins because they're easy to drop and lose. You only need one. Even the long pin isn't needed but I guess they hope the contractor can keep that in his pocket. If I had to install a lot of these, the little pins would be a pain.

I followed the directions closely and applied three beads of liquid nails as instructed. During the first rain, there was a little water at either end of the doors but I thought the water just went around the threshhold seal. However during a following rain, water ran under the threshold seal.

Unfortunately, in spite of the glowing reviews from others on this product, I have to give my third to this utterly lacking Multi-Code single-channel micro transmitter. I needed a portable garage opener for a building that has a system that predates anyone who lives in the building now. Given its miniature size, this looked like a fine selection as it provides the necessary match to the increasingly rare ten-switch operation. In fact, I was excited that I received two of the remotes for the price.
I enthusiastically changed the switch positions to match the ten switches in the main component of the garage opening system. However, to my chagrin, neither remote worked with the system, even after I replaced the batteries included for ones I purchased at an electronics store. Luckily, I still have an old remote that works, but it is on the verge of disrepair. I could understand if one of the two remotes was inoperable due to manufacturing error, but for both to be inoperable, it shows me that there are non-disclosed limits to the compatibility of this remote to systems. Be forewarned that you will run this risk as well if you blindly purchase this product based solely on its ten-switch capability.

Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Gear Kit - Part #41A2817 Review

(More customer reviews)I was faced with the decision to purchase a new garage door opener for about $230 or repair the existing opener from 1992 which lacks some of today's safety features. Since I don't use this garage door often and I don't have children, I opted to save some cash and do the repair myself. I have no previous experience of doing these types of garage door opener repairs, but as a do-it-yourselfer I figured it was worth the attempt.
The kit came with detailed instructions which broke the process down into 5 main steps each with multiple individual tasks. The instructions were not exact for my opener, but were close enough to get the point. The steps start with removing the motor with the worm, removing the chain stem with the gear, replacing the worm, replacing the gear, and finally reassembling everything. Once the first two steps were completed I brought the parts inside to work on. I had the most trouble removing the tightly set pin to replace the gear. About two hours later, everything was reassembled and the garage door was working like a charm.
For those that want to save time, there is another kit with a complete gear stem for about $11 more. If time is an issue for you, consider the more expensive kit option. However for me, this kit worked well and is at the right price. Ultimately I need to replace my aging Craftsman garage door opener; however I can wait for the right time for me financially speaking.
PROS:
Inexpensive way to extend the life of your garage door opener
Simple enough instructions
CONS:
Using the kit may delay replacing the garage door opener for safety reasons
Time consuming to replace parts

Unfortunately, none of them could find a key blank that would fit the lock. From what the Lock Smiths told me, apparently the overseas companies to get past copyright laws, make their keys just a little different. This makes it impossible to have extra keys made for this lock. If you only need two keys, then this one will work. If you need more then two keys, skip it.
