(More customer reviews)I love my two-year old Overhead Door Legacy garage door opener, but a couple of weeks ago, I lost one of the remote transmitters (clicker) somehow and I got a nasty surprise. Seems that the Overhead Door people wanted to sell me the replacement for $39, plus state tax! I was determined to get this simple one-button remote for less than that.
My research turned up all kinds of confusing information, but I finally understood that Genie "Intellicode" and Overhead Door "Codedodger" technology is pretty much the same. After reading the specs on twelve different Genie remotes I decided to take a chance on this one, ordering it from Sanford & Son. Sanford & Son is amazing! I placed my order late on a Monday afternoon and the remote was in my hand with the delivery of the mail Thursday of the same week. And, there was no shipping charge!
Programming the remote took less than 60 seconds. It is a simple process of activating a "learn" function between the base unit and the remote (instructions are included). In appearance and function, the Genie and the Overhead Door remotes are identical, except for the wording on them.
Bottom line -- Instead of paying about $42 to buy a replacement Overhead Door remote locally, I bought this Genie remote from Sanford & Son for less than half that (special battery is included in the price) and it works perfectly.

The GIT-1 is compatible with your opener f your Genie unit says "INTELLICODE" on the side of it and has a manufacture date of 1995-CURRENT. The manufacture date can be found on the motor head. The GIT-1 is also compatible with Ovehead CodeDodger units manufactured 1995-current. Not all compatible models listed-contact Genie if you are unsure if it is compatible with your unit.

It would not program with the 9 pin system as it stated to set new PINS to match the old (not sure if I messed up the old PIN configuration by accident). I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND vs. purchasing the unit from Sears for $40+.

With the one exception noted below, this item has worked everytime on the first click and without interference to other remote controls in use. In my initial temporary installation of the unit, I was not careful to install the remote vertically with the plug-in receptical down as noted in the instructions. Water got into the unit during a heavy rain and the unit stopped working. After drying it out, it worked just fine. This is one reliable, tough product, and well worth the price.

The only problem is you have to be in the garage for it to work, it has no range outside of 20 feet from the opener. My other opener is also the same brand and althoug it does not have great range either you can use it an exceptable distance from the opener. This product was purchased to replace the reciever in the origanal opener that went bad. I have been less than satisfied with the origanal openers and the reciever.

The original remotes had long since been destroyed..
Diligent maintenance on the opener has kept it functional and reliable..
Then, the old wall mounted receiver with its push button opener was damaged beyond repair. Not having any means to open my garage easily made it a pain in the neck - but I couldn't justify replacing my opener simply to get a working receiver and remotes.
I bought this receiver and a couple of remotes....
System was installed, both remotes "trained" and both Lexus "trained" to use their built in garage door opening buttons -- all within 30 minutes.
It functions perfectly - every time..
My range is significantly longer that the ranges mention in the other reviews - and that may be due to the fact that my receiver is mounted in the garage rafters - 10 ft above the floor, utilizing the same power source as the opener....My range is easily in the 150' range, using the remote "button" provided in our cars. I haven't tested range with the hand held remote yet....
NOTE: You need to buy at least one remote - even if you intend to use the remote garage door opening button provided in many new cars --- because you need one remote to "train" your car....
Assuming this device doesn't crap out -- it is a remarkable product. Easily installed and "trained" by anyone who can follow written instructions.....

This device works great and was very easy to hookup. Both work flawlessly and I have not had any issues with them in the year that I have had it. I can open the garage door from about 50 feet away with no issues. The other added benefit is now the older garage door has the rolling codes to make it more secure since I disabled the receiver on the opener.
